Extras at NITOP 2018

Families

Over half of past participants in the Institute have brought family or friends with them to Florida. The TradeWinds Island Grand Resort has many activities for companions to enjoy while participants are attending the conference. NITOP does not offer child care, but during the conference (January 3–6), the TradeWinds will offer a full-day of programmed activities including lunch for children age 5 and up at $60 for 8:30–3:30 or $75 until 5:30 (call 727-363-2329), and Resort Sitters will offer daycare at the TradeWinds for children 4 and under at $15/hour (call 727-865-0661). Prearrangements must be made for either of these services no later than December 3, 2017 so appropriate staff can be hired and activities scheduled. Participants who bring children with them but have not made these prior arrangements for their care will have an opportunity to get together with other parents to make informal arrangements for the care and supervision of their children during the conference, at a meeting at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3rd, in the Chart Room at the TradeWinds. For the benefit of all conference participants, children under 16 years of age will not be admitted to program events except the reception on Wednesday evening, which is open to all companions and families of Institute participants.

After the Conference: Local Attractions

For participants and families who may wish to visit popular museums and aquariums in the area, we recommend the following (visit their websites for details; prices given are general admission for adults): (1) Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, $24.00 (educators $22, students $17, children $10), (2) MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry) in Tampa, $26.95 (children $20.95), (3) Clearwater Marine Aquarium, $21.95 (children $16.95), and (4) Florida Aquarium in Tampa, $24.95 (children $20.95) if purchased online. Other attractions less than 90 minutes away include Busch Gardens in Tampa and Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studios in Orlando. The NITOP Bulletin Board can be used to contact other participants to organize groups to visit these attractions, and staff at the registration desk will provide recommendations for transportation.

Handouts

All invited speakers have been encouraged to provide handouts that are available online to registered participants. Links to individual handouts will be available closer to the conference, as will a link to a full packet of all handouts. If you also want printed copies, you can request this on your registration form. Additional handouts may be available at the sessions themselves. Abstracts of all presentations by invited speakers will be included with the registration materials in order to assist you in your selection of sessions and to provide valuable information about sessions you are unable to attend.

Employment Opportunities

The NITOP Bulletin Board can be used for posting employment opportunities. Please bring your announcement to the Institute. We have set aside a conference room which may be reserved by employers and applicants for interviews during the conference.
